Pre-Employment Physicals
The pre-placement exam is performed after a person has been offered a job. The exam is performed with attention to the job duties, including physical requirements. Following the examination, the physician provides a written opinion about the person’s suitability for performing the job without health and safety risk to self and others. Medically conditional information is not divulged on this form. This form of communication usually is a standard form that is placed in the employees file. Specific medical records remain at the health facility and are maintained only by the medical staff.
Respiratory Fit Testing
If an employee is required to use any respirator with a negative or positive pressure tight fitting face piece, the employee must be fit tested with the same make, model, style, and size of respirator that will be used. Employees using a fitting face piece must pass an appropriate qualitative fit test (QLFT). The employer must ensure that an employee using a face piece respirator is fit tested prior to initial use of the respirator, whenever a different respirator (size, make, style or model) is used, and at least annually thereafter.
